I’m Sad, I’m Rich And You Know Me, So Give Me Money So I Can Help Feed The Orphans

December 3, 2009 1 comment

I watch CNN all the time (it’s my default) and this commercial comes on all day. “Help feed the needy…” such and such. I’m honestly not poo pooing on the cause, just making an analysis on their delivery. A celebrity spokesperson is a given (still not hating), but why the hell does Laurie Metcalf have to look so pitiful. When Sarah MacLachlan does the commercials for the ASPCA, she’s somber, but joyous. Even when Jennifer Aniston speak on behalf of children with BRAIN CANCER for St Jude’s, she manages to still make you smile. I guess JoinPlanUSA.org intended to depress to money right out of our wallets. And then they have the nerve to put her on their site too, they might have an agreement with Paxil

Emo Song Of The Week “Stepping Stone” – Duffy

October 26, 2009 3 comments

The song is so hot, another one of those songs I heard on television and just had to have. I first heard this on the promos leading up for Damages season 2- that alone made it interesting to me. I can still remember the entire tv spot,  Ellen (Rose Byrne) steps out of the towncar, looking all sexy and devious then we see her getting dressed in some strange bedroom. That had my so hype for the season, the promo went so well with the song, Duffy’s whole album is good, especially “Warwick Avenue”.

Jake Gylenhaal Signs On To Star In Balloon Boy Movie

October 19, 2009 4 comments

There has been word from Gylenhaal’s camp that he is, in fact, going to star in the TLC made-for-tv movie loosely based on the Stormchasing, fame-driven Heene story. It will be written as a prequel to his ground-breaking Film Noir about polymer, Bubble Boy, from a decade earlier. This is a dual role for Gylenhaal, he’s playing the father in the the past and an all-grown-up version of the Balloon Boy as the narrator.  Parts of the plot for the movie were leaked by Jon Gosselin’s camp, out of retaliation for TLC not running with his show idea. At a pitch meeting, Jon proposed “Gosselin Squares,” a take on Hollywood Squares with all of Jon’s children at the spots (Jon as the center square, of course).  He wanted OctoMom to play a Charo-like Vanna White roll, but production felt it inappropriate for a woman with 14 kids to yell, “coochie coochie coochie” on national television. Gosselin also wanted Ryan Seacrest to host, but Ryan’s out of commission until his CPU , modem and backup skinsuit are taken of off back-order from the Bayside Animatronics-Robotics Factory (BARF). Jon allegedly took the Balloon Boy script treatment as collateral. The script reads: Bubble Boy Beginnings: A Soaring Falcon. Read more…

Emo Song Of The Week “Perfect Lie” The Engine Room

October 19, 2009 1 comment

I love this song. The beat and the music kind of pull you in, like  hypnosis or a trance. All those Nip/Tuck fans out there will recognize it, and the first video. It’s their theme song, and that’s how I first heard it. They fit so well together, the song’s about trying to be completely perfect and the show’s about Plastic Surgeons.  I saw the season premiere last Wednesday, it made me think of this song and their opening credits…if only mannequins actually could turn into real people. I always picture that John Hughes movie from the 80s with Kelly LeBrock. Weird Science: when the two nerds build the “perfect woman” using barbie dolls, hocus pocus and cutting-edge 1985 gadgetry. We can manufacture the “perfect face” or the “perfect abs” now, but what if we really could engineer people? No doubt, it’ll be seen sometime this century… From Dr. Frankenstein to Dr. Christian Troy.

I came across a Final Fantasy version of the video, it’s definitely creepy and emo.

Hype Song of the Week “1901″ – Phoenix

October 15, 2009 Leave a comment

This song is one of my “hype songs of the moment,” I heard it on 90210 a couple weeks back and had to look it up. (Same thing with Cobra Starship’s “Hot Mess”) After I heard it once or I realized I heard i all over the place: on like 3 car commercials, CNN Morning news, CW news…its hott! Its one of those dance-around-the-house-when-no-one-else-is-there kind of song.

Throwback Song Of The Week “Come Together” – The Beatles

October 13, 2009 Leave a comment

I’ve been hearing this Beatles song all of the place lately, on CNN’s American Morning, on commercials, in TV shows. What do they say, every time Lennon sings, a Jackson says “chi-ching.” This song and video remind me of a time in U.S. history when the counter-culture really had power to affect change. If Michael Moore was around back then to team up with Leary, Kinsey, Stanley and Milk the world would be a different place today.

Music.1

I dont really focus on the music that’s out today, so much of it’s about Madison Avenue placating to radio stations and music televion and visa versa, using failed actors and reality stars to fill in as musicians. I dont listen too the radio, I dont watch music television. Does MTV even play videos? They’re all about [un]Reality Shows these days. Ad sales and demographic studies drive the programming on radio and tv, I’m not going to have them define my music catalog. Music is too relevant; I find music from everywhere, it’s usually from someone telling me about it, or a websearch, or from the tv shows I watch. Grey’s Anatomy/ Private Practice and 90210/ Melrose Place have the best music on their shows week-to-week. I once spent almost an hour playing/pausing/rewinding an episode of Grey’s Anatomy so I could write down the lyrics to a song a heard in the background. Then I websearched the lyrics: “…and I know my destination, but I’m just not there, in the streets…” [A*LOST*HOUR] When I finally realized what I was looking up…I felt so stupid. I had just downloaded Kanye’s “808s and Heartbreak” about four days before, but I didn’t recognize the songs yet.
