Random Thoughts About Gay Marriage From An NYC Dad.

December 7, 2009 2 comments

My blogger/ twitter friend Mateo/@MCiscart passed along one of his random rantings for me to post and comment on, 12/04/09:
This Thursday, like every other Thursday morning for the past three months has been more or less the same.  After dropping my SLMB off at school I grab the AM New York for a quick train read on my way to school. On page three there’s an article about the gay marriage proposal not passing, which in itself can be seen as basic news, though while reading this article I ran pass a passage, that to me seems very disturbing.  Maggie Gallagher, director of the National Organization for Marriage, which opposed the bill said, “This is a huge and magnificent win by an unexpectedly large margin…It puts the nail in the coffin of the idea that the culture is changing.” This quote to me is very troubling, maybe its the fact that I’m currently reading about W.E.B Dubious and J.W. Johnson, both who part of black civil rights movements in the early 1900′s.  This quote for me symbolizes the mind set that was also shared in the early 1900′s when sure blacks were “free” but still got treated like second class citizen’s, many seem to confuse culture with a way of life. Ms. Gallagher’s comment just show’s me everything that I see wrong in politics.  What legal stand point other than religion do we have to deny anyone their pursuit of happiness.  I recall a classmate who stated that she would vote for McCain, for the single purpose that she felt Obama supported gay marriage.  Why do we look at political leaders as saviors of our religious beliefs.  To me this is one of the reasons why change is slow and hard to come by.  To me I don’t see what the big fuss is about, maybe it’s the fact that I live in the New York City and what I’ve come to see in my every day life isn’t the norm for the majority that live outside City limits.  If someone happens to be gay has no baring on whether their a good or bad person.  Read more…

Terror Trials in NYC, My Thoughts

New York City is a strong city, we’ve overcome a lot of issues long before two planes flew into the towers. I consider it a slap-in-the-face to say we’re unable to try our own accused at the scene of the crime because it makes us “less safe.” This coming from our former mayor, no less. Seriously, that in itself is an swipe at Bloomberg’s handling of the city and the NYPD as it is today. Didn’t we just have Ahmedinejad, Gadhafi, Obama, Merkel, Medvedev etc. at the UN general assembly a couple months ago? We can host the world’s heads of state, but we can’t anticipate and protect against what may happen if the 5 detainees are tried in US federal court downtown? (And it wasn’t a mistake to try the blind sheik there either, for the first attack.) It’s a gross under-estimation of New York’s might.

Why are we leaving it to other countries to detain these people for us? I think that makes us look weak, we’re not able to keep our accused in our own jails, “they’re too dangerous.” I wonder if America holds other nation’s prisoners/detainees while the other nation settles certain legalities of their incarceration. I heard Giuliani say on CNN, “it would cause too much [gridlock].” When your biggest concern about trying the people who caused the worst tragedy on US soil IN YOUR CITY boils down to traffic and gridkock, that just shows the weight that your argument holds.

Bloomberg’s behind this and so is the NYPD and the President. Attorney General Holder made it very clear that he’s doing everything he possibly can to try, convict and execute these individuals. I’m confident that justice can be obtain in a New York court. Even though some Democrats disagree, I still feel that this is mainly a partisan battle. “Do the opposite of what they do, and we’ll be Right.” How can America boast about having the greatest justice system in the world if we’re not willing to display it on the world stage? I don’t want to hear about the transcripts from the military tribunal of these people, I want daily reporting from in and around the courthouse. They said it will be a media circus, of course it will that’s going to happen regardless, wherever the trial is held. I think New Yorkers should be able to this chapter in our history to rest.

11/04/09.8:00a.Election Day After

So it really happened, I can’t claim surprised or anything, I just feel hoodwinked and made fun of. Richie Rich said I can only come to his birthday party if I make him Class President. It really is possible to buy elected office. Wait, I already knew that, this is was even more blatant than that. Money was thrown everywhere at everyone. Bloomberg slowly conquerred City Hall, the unions and the media-it’s disgusting. When someone spends nearly $100,000,000.00 to win an election, is that even an election or a membership fee? When we face economic troubles in the next four years, it’s going to hard to take Bloomberg seriously when he says, “the city schools are facing a hiring freeze because of fiscal strains.” Or, “the MTA’s Second Avenue subway construction is halted due to a $17 Million budget gap.”

“$17 Million, that’s nothing, our mayor will help us out”

No he won’t. Bloomberg wants to buy the system, not be Mr Fix-It. It’s [analogous] to the federal government spending ka-billions on the Toxic Asset Relief Program (TARP) when they could of just paid of home owner’s mortgages. $100 million could have really revitalized this city in so many ways. #IfBloombergGaveNYC100mil. All that money was wasted in less than ten months…Recession, what Recession. *see also*

The truth is Bloomberg could have spent a fraction of that amount if he wasn’t such a autocratic Napoleonic out-of-touch Billionaire. There would not have been a Democrat with a fighting chance if Bloomberg would have went to the people of the City of New York and said something along the lines of: “I know this has been a matter that’s been posed and decided by the New York voters before, but I feel like, with me as your mayor for a third term, I could continue the work I have been doing to make this city one of the finest city in the world. As well as pull us out of our current economic Recession”. Bloomberg would have polled in the high sixties/low seventies on Election Day because he has been doing a good job. That wasn’t the case, however, Bloomberg circumvented the people’s will and we don’t take too kindly to that, at all.

The truth of the matter is that candidate Bill Thompson did a hell of a job contending with The Behemoth Of Park Row. You would think if someone spends twelve time more money than their opposition, they’ll win by at least double. Not the case here, Thompson was defeated by only a couple percentage points, that deserves acknowledgment. I still think that if Billy went a little harder in the Spring, he might have had a better change. At least he didn’t cower the way Rep. Anthony Weiner did in the face of Doomberg’s Dollars.

It’s Election Day. What does that actually mean to me? Not that much, there aren’t any nail-biter, close-call races relevant to me this year. Obviously the NYC Mayoral Election does effect me, but I jumped off the SS Thompson months ago-it was sinking. That most certainly doesn’t mean I’m voting for Bloomberg. He didn’t pay me enough for my vote, like he did with others. Hopeful, on a wing and a prayer, Billy’ll pull through in the clutch and surprise everyone. Yet, still, he’s no Dinkins.
I’m going miles outside of my route tonight to cast my ballot- because its my vote to cast.

Mayor McCheese Called, He Wants His Snapple Back. Will Trade For Milk Though.

Snapple HypocrisyMayor Bloomberg and the rest of his ilk down in City Hall should be ashamed of their selves for this blatant hypocrisy. I’m calling shenanigans on the entire building. I recall, in the not-so-distant past, when all New York City Schools had an exclusive contract with Snapple to only sell their products in schools. Now drinks like Snapple and Gatorade are being treated like an unwanted STD. When Bloomy sinks his teeth into an issue, he GOES IN. Here in New York, we’re all used to Napoleon ll and his unilateral ways. Don’t believe me, ask restaurant owners, cigarette smokers or Plaxico Burress.

It’s hard to agrue with cutting back on food and drinks that can cause health problems later on in life but, it almost feels like the Mayor’s office and the Office of The City Of New York are assigning new villains every couple of months under the guise of human interest/quality of life improvements. So now what am I going to do, stock up on seltzer water and low-fat Yoohoo? I hope the plastic bag tax didn’t go into effect at the supermarket already.

How am I to know whether or not the City Office has an “in” with the dairy farmers to pump more milk into the city now that there’s a snapple-sized whole in the budget.

The campaign is effective, though: cogealed fat pouring from a juice bottle, spilling over the clear glass the same way a “oversized” person spills over into your seat on the train. And then there’s a water bottle at the bottom. The use of pink was intended to alert you, without overly cationing you: POUNDS, …YOURSELF, FAT.  The make you more aware, not like you can ignore the glog of goo in the center. Good sale, but I’m not buying, I’m too damn jaded to fall for ever ploy that comes my way.
